Search Engines and Reference Tools

Just a few of my favorites for easy access. This page last modified on November 13, 2006.

Search Engines:

Google Lately, everyone seems to be using this site for searches.

Yahoo The best place to start if you're new to "Web-surfing." This site contains the best available "Table of Contents" for the Web.

Lycos was at one time the best place to conduct serious research via the Web. (Or for finding not so serious stuff, too!) I find that their newest "advanced search" capabilities are less flexible than the old ones, but it's still a very good search tool.

WebCrawler Searching Another powerful resource. Try it.

Other Reference Tools:

Mapquest Get maps and/or driving directions for anywhere.

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary and Thesaurus

Verizon Superpages for phone number searches. Also, try the Reverse Number Lookup.

InfoSpace Looking for a phone number? Reverse Lookups, too.

Veromi.net Search people, property, marriage, background and criminal records at People Finders.

Babelfish provides the online text and web page language translation.

The Internet Dictionary Project -- looking for foreign language definitions or translations? Look here....

Online Conversion - Convert just about anything to anything else.

Purdue University's Online Writing Lab is a valuable resource for web page developers and authors of all types.

Behind the Name - the Etymology and History of First Names

Phone Spell - What does your phone number spell?

Countdown to my retirement! You can customize the link for other events.
