Huricane Isabel at the Jersey Shore

Thursday, 9/18, 1 pm: It's getting pretty windy around here. My coworkers,
Cara and Jim, and I went to the beach in Long Branch during our lunch hour today:
6pm: I went to the beach in Allenhurst after work, and the wind was
getting stronger. It was whipping up the sand such that it actually stung
a bit as it hit your face, even when walking along the boardwalk. Plenty
of locals ventured on down to the beach club and boardwalk, though, as it
wasn't raining yet, and the 30 to 40 mph winds were bearable.

Realize that we're on the fringes of this storm, so we're not even getting the serious stuff:

Friday, 9/19, 7:30 am: So what! Big Deal! For the most part, the storm missed us.

Lotsa wind, but nothing much more than 50 mph sustained wind speeds, but very little rain. All of the flooding that I heard about in our area was coastal flooding related to the storm surge and tides; it wasn't storm run-off.
