Adjusting the Over-rev Buzzer

James S. King originally mentioned something on "the big list" (rx7@world.std.com) that he came up with a method to adjust the over-rev buzzer on the '84 GSL-SE that he used to own. He was a little surprised that he was bombarbed with so many requests for this tip. What follows are his comments. Thank him at james.king@wyatt.com.

Ok guys, here it is.  I'd no idea this would be so popular.  Geez.  I scanned
the page.  It is attached as a JPG file.  Sorry, the original was pencil on
paper, so it's not too sharp.  Maybe someone could forward this to somebody
that maintains a 1st gen FAQ site.

The hardest part about this is getting the instrument cluster *out*.  AFAIK,
you  have to remove the steering wheel, and getting mine off the shaft
practically requied a act-of-god.  I used a generic gear puller and it was
still a battle to get the wheel off the splines.  Watch out, if you pull too
hard on the wheel, the entire shaft will slide back out of the colapsable
section.  That's probably not a good thing.  With a lot of tension applied by
the puller, I tapped the puller shaft with a hammer and pounded on the
steering wheel rim with my fist till the vibrations finally got it to pop
loose with a loud bang.  Be careful and patient.  Probably would come right
off if you used the special Mazda SST, but who has that?

Don't forget to unclip the speedo cable from the back of the speedometer
before you pull the cluster out!

Good luck!
